A Desert Lunch & Back to Tucson - Dropping off Alex

Friday - Monday, January 13-16, 2017

Heading back to Tucson, where we spent a couple of days prior to leaving for Mexico.  We'll leave Alex there and just drive Carrie across the border.

As we left Organ Pipe Cactus N.M. one of the Rangers suggested a restaurant for us to eat lunch which serves desert products.  Lunch was interesting and it was fun to eat cactus products that we had been reading about.

Desert Rain Cafe, Tohono Plaza, Sells, AZ (lunch 11:30-12:19) - serving traditional Tohono O'odham fare:

Desert Rain Sampler - Desert Hummus (tepary beans), Cholla Pico de Gallo (Cholla Cactus Buds), Tepary Bean Dip (brown tepary beans)
Teparary Bean & Short Rib Stew w/corn bread - (sweetened with Agave and made with O'Odham Corn, which is the fastest growing corn in the world)
Prickly Pear Chicken Wrap - served with the Cholla Pico de Gallo

Leave Organ Pipe 9:57am
Rte: 85N►86E
Gas - Circle K about 5 miles south of Tucson $2.19/gal
