Pictures:
1-4. Saguaro Cactus at various stages of growth
- The Saguaro Cactus needs shade at the beginning of it's growth. They grow under the shade of a "nurse plant", another plant or tree.
- Ironically once the Saguaro reaches a certain stage it kills the "nurse plant" due competing for water
- The Saguaro can live up to 150 years, sprouting it's first arms around 75 years
- The holes found in the Saguaro are made by birds and animals creating a living space. The Saguaro creates an internal nest like area called a "boot", which sort of looks like a hornets nest.
6. Organ Pipe Cactus
7. Ochotilla - This is not a cactus - Both Wilson and I really liked this plant
